(is there magical montage music? there better be good magical montage music here. with them sometimes arguing, sometimes things going awry. they end up sewn together or something at some point, too, because there's always going to be a part where there's some hilarious mishap and they both try to get up and then end up tumbling back together.

Why would you say flame on? (Howard is going to blankly stare at him, because unless it's necessary, that just seems a bit ostentatious. howard won't say more, though, instead he'll just watch him with wide eyed curiosity. he really does need to get into this whole magic thing if this kid can learn, a kid who is quite clearly of the technological frame of mind, then he should be able to too, right?
he lets out a pleased huff, the kind that has the notes of 'i told you so', because since they started, and got the design down, he hadn't doubted it for a second. he laughs even, boyish and gleeful as it rises, even if it isn't high. that didn't matter. why would it? it was working. )

(he pulls on his gloves, not only for protection from the cold, but should the magnesium ignite while he holds it, it'll be easier to pull off. they have bags of it, and he takes one of the smaller ones, one of the testers and opens it.)

(howard says it as he leans out over the edge, carefully, dumping out the contents, and though it's light, currently there's little wind, so it drifts down similarly to the snow, only to burst into a bright ignition of flame, the heat so strong it comes back and hits him in the face. but lo! beneath the ground is bear.)
