Death doesn't free me from my own nightmares. Besides, as far as this world is concerned, I'm very much alive.

[He shrugs.]

Reality is complicated, too. It's seen differently from one person to another. If you've ever had a nightmare where you've been chased by something that wants to kill you, then you've felt nothing but pure, primal fear. All your dream self wants to do is get away from it, even if you know it can't actually cause you harm. Actually, sometimes, if the dream is intense enough, then you'll feel that pain if it swipes at you, even if it's just a shadow of the agony you would've felt if it had connected.

[Again, Joshua looks faintly amused.]

I suppose that, in a way, it's your imagination running wild and carefree, throwing as much impossible things at you as it can during the night. Who cares if you can't actually grow wings in real life? You can in your dreams, a place where the impossible is possible. The only limit is your imagination.
