I always knew you were smart. [And that much is true. He's never really had to spell things out for Billy because Billy seems to be able to figure everything out just based on context and it's one of the reasons Hiro likes him. That said...] I could probably start filling in more of the main facts though. [He rolls his eyes, elbowing him in the ribs gently.] Dude. [That is to say, stop it. It's done. They're both crappy listeners sometimes and they're working on it.
He's heard Teddy's name before, but Cassie's a new one.] ...boyfriend, right? [Speaking of piecing things together from details. He knows that Tommy's his twin and Loki's Loki and the only other person Billy's mentioned is his boyfriend and a guy named Teddy. They had to be one in the same.] Cliche as it sounds, I'm glad you had somebody. [Even if he doesn't know all of the details. That's an open invitation though to expand on everything.
At the comment about Nico though he looks a little more thoughtful, unaware of the slightly fond look that crosses his features as he begins to explain.] Nico's...I mean, Nico's Nico. He's Seelie, like I said, but he's not like a normal Seelie. A lot of the Seelies I've met are all kinds of self-sacrificing and justice-driven and "for the good of humanity!" and stuff but Nico's kind of like me. He's a hero but he follows his own path anyway.
[A very bright grin suddenly.] He's also a demigod. [Which probably makes sense to why Hiro's enthralled with him.] Son of Hades so...like I said, he's kind of the expert of death but it's like...for being a death kid he's not really that creepy. He's actually kind of a huge dork. He's one of the only people in this whole world that's my age and it's still funny because there's so much he doesn't know about the modern world so I'm going to teach him.
Remember the betting pool in Treun? That kinda backfired and so when a bunch of natives were chasing me that's when I ran into Nico and he kinda saved me from getting myself killed and since then we've kind of been talking a lot and spending time together. [A sheepish look.] I, uh, sort of left for a week before the birthday party to hang out with him in Leathann for that lights festival. And...we've been talking a lot since then. Nico kind of gets a lot of things that other people don't so it's a lot easier to talk to him about some stuff.
[He'll stop eventually, Billy, really. But it's evident that as he talks he's...pretty deeply intertwined himself into Nico's life and vice versa.] So...what happened was that we were talking and he told me that he needed to apologize to the Black Shuck for something and he was scared, so I said I'd go with him. And when we went Shuck gave us the task as a way to make up for what Nico did. That's why I'm doing it. I promised Nico I'd stick with him no matter what Shuck did and that includes this. Loki found out because we sort of accidentally ran right into him after we saw Shuck. I made him keep it a secret for a few months until I told Jason, Jason freaked, I got upset, Jason got upset, and now here we are. So I've spent the last month with Nico training and traveling. He didn't want me doing this either because he didn't want me to get hurt. But we're making it work.
You can see where this is starting to get really complicated...
