They're all given a choice and are informed that losing means losing for good. There are, of course, very rare exceptions, such as if the Player's entry fee was the entirety of their memories.

Either way, if they find that the risks are worth trying, then they're entered into the Game and their entry fee is collected. The only thing they're not told is that only a certain amount of Players will be brought back. While some Players will take that very well, others might use that as an excuse to snipe other Players, which is against a more implied rule than an actual one.
