The masks. There's obviously something up with them. I think it might be worthwhile to take them apart.

You mean the things people have been carrying around? I didn't take a good look at them when I was there. What do you think's wrong with them?

Aside from the fact that we can't get rid of them? I think there's a pretty good chance they might be embedded with the same tech as the books. They don't seem to be affecting anyone's personalities... yet. Anyway, it can't hurt to check.

I'm heading back to the carnival tomorrow. Think I should grab a second one for us to test out, or do you mind if we mess with yours?

Mine is fine, or I wouldn't've brought it up this evening. When do you want to work on it?

Let's wait until the thing's over. For all we know something could change in the next couple of days that would throw all of our data off anyway. The flyer said the carnival was only in town until the 15th right? That's not too long.

Sounds good to me. If we can pick up an extra mask, I'm sure that'd help.

I plan to go back, if only for that, and to keep an eye on the animals, if they can get them back in those poorly-made pens.

Like most things on this planet, I don't trust it at all. I'll be going back tomorrow and the next day, too, to keep an eye out. I'll try to pick up one of the masks myself.

Anything else weird going on that you saw?

I couldn't agree more. I don't like what they did with those animals at all. It reminded me too much of the jungle. They can string me up as a prize all they want, but I draw the line at risking everyone's safety.

I had a theory I wanted to run past you, actually.

Dude please don't say that before they actually string you up and take you with them. Traveling carnival, remember? We'll keep everybody safe.

[ It takes him about 20 minutes, all told, just because he's not in a rush. It's nice to be back in normal clothes, even if he didn't mind his earlier outfit...

He'll knock on the door once he arrives. (He's brought food.) ]

[He doesn't respond to that text and while he could use that 20 minutes to clean up a little...he doesn't. He just goes right back to what he was doing and when Yu knocks on the door he answers it wearing a pair of black thicker-framed glasses and holding an un-open cup of noodles.]

Hey. [His eyes immediately move to the items in Yu's hands, lifting an eyebrow.] You always bring food when you come to see me or what?

I just happened to have some extra food prepared, that's all.

[ He smiles in a way that warms his eyes. He sees that cup-o-noodles, bro. He knows you. He's also totally lying and he knows Hiro will know that. This time, be brought tonkatsu.

Yu will step in the door, his eyes searching Hiro's face. ]

I didn't know you had vision problems.

[ What's with the glasses, bro?????? ]

And you just so happened to have that extra food prepared and packaged up in a container that's enough to feed me. Got it. [But he's grateful and it shows in his expression as he waves Yu further into the apartment. He disappears into the kitchen to put the cup noodles back, leaving Yu to his own devices.

And the cat. The fat lump of a cat is on the back of the couch sleeping.]
