[Hello gym-Hawke. She's managed to catch Hiro in his usual state of being...in his workshop, probably half-asleep but still working. He blinks to wake up a little more once he sees who's calling and he sits up to focus.]

Depends on what kind of instruments you're asking about. Why?

[ there is a small bit of judgmental eyebrow raise here but she doesn't say anything. instead, she continues punching the bag, casually explaining as she does. ]

A job I've taken up. The girl who hired me is asking about something called a keytar. It seems she doesn't have her usual one here and is looking for a replacement. I thought, oh, why not inquire about this thing to my favorite technology inclined brothers, hm?

[ a beat, she pauses. ]

I'm also pretty sure the woman who hired me is a robot but it felt impolite to ask.

[Don't judge him, at least he understands how microwaves work.]

Huh. Okay before I even start addressing literally any of that, lemme ask you something. Do you know what a piano is? Do they have those where you're from?

I know what a piano is, Hiro. We have organs back home, they're part of the Chantry. Harpsichords and that kind of nonsense too. I don't play anything though. Not much of a... creative type, no.

[ anyway yes. ]

Well, I think her name was... I don't remember. I wrote it down -- something related to a mammal? She wasn't a CERES robot. More just another resident like us. Very odd face but nice hat.

Hey, I'm just checking. That'll make all of this way easier to explain. I'm sure you've seen what a guitar is by now, so a keytar is basically those two things put together. Instead of having strings like a guitar, a keytar has piano keys to play. In theory it shouldn't be that hard to find one or even build one, but I've never really tried to make an instrument before either.

[...wait.] Did she happen to tell you she was created to play music?

[ that's a good thing to regret. smart choice. ]

It all sounds kind of... clunky but I try not to judge. [ except you do all the time, hawke!! ] Still, there's no time like the present -- could you build a keytar? Or should I just shop around?

[ ... !!! ]

Hmm, no. But she did offer to write me a song.

It's not too bad but I'm still not even sure who decided the world needed it. [Judge away, Hawke, Hiro's right there with you like that. He considers for a moment, humming under his breath.]

I've never built an actual instrument before but I don't see why I couldn't try. I've built a bunch of other stuff...how hard can that be? You can help get me the materials, I'll figure it out.

[ they can judge weird instruments together, it'll be great. from there, they'll graduate to weird foods and weird clothes and weird hobbies. good job, you two. ]

Ah, I'm so relieved! It would be nice to deliver something unique to her, I think. [ and help hawke get in her robot pants but hiro doesn't need to know that. ] I'll have no problem getting you what you need. Just give me a list and I'll do my best.

[ and then hah. hawke just grins, cheeky as can be. ]

... right. but she does look suitably impressed at hiro turning the deal around on her! nice. a grin spreads on her face and she takes a moment to stop and drink from her water bottle, pretending to actually think about it. ]

I do like not having to shell out credits. I'm assuming something of equal value, yes? Nothing like "Hawke, I'll do this and then you go fight the horrible demon from the abyss I summoned by mistake." Which, while I've done but I'm not a fan.

Yeah, I know. [Just as cheeky as ever, don't mind him. Hey, he wouldn't mind the ego boost if Hawke wanted to tell people he was awesome. On the other hand, please don't give him romance advice, he wants to continue dating his girlfriend, not scar her…

Still, he keeps a light smile on his face when Hawke replies.]

While I'd love to see you take on a demon and you're definitely telling me that story later, no. Nothing like that. Don't worry it'll be something equal and probably non-lifethreatening. Promise.

[ he's great and small and less terrible than most other teenagers. that makes him excellent in hawke's book! but she will not scar his girlfriend though. hawke also thinks ruby's great and would not want to ruin that. ]

Not much of a storyteller, that's more my friend's thing but I'll regale you as best I can. This seems like a fairly safe deal though, I'll accept your terms.
